Ninth Week of Electronics Media

This has marked the end of the ninth week of Electronics Media. This was another studio week dedicated to catching up on our projects. Here is a recap of the things that have occurred this week.

On 3/4/25, I couldn't make it to class due to complications but I used that time to prepare the materials for the hat construction. I took the time to research potential material I can use both in my apartment and at my home when spring break arrives. Here is a list of materials I have decided to use and the reasoning behind it:

Materials:

  • EVA Foam: Hat base and exterior
    • I plan to use this as I already had this material within my apartment and it is non-conductive to electricity
  • Rubber cement: Adhesive for glue
    • I had this material lying around my apartment as well, and it has proven to be a good ahesive when it comes to working with EVA Foam
  • Tin Foil: Exterior
    • Purely for the look of the hat to make it look close to a stereotypical "conspiracy" hat
  • Glue Gun: Temporary Adhesive for wiring
    • I chose this as I already had this around my apartment, and reddit forums, a video from ADA fruit and some forums from Quora have stated that hot glue should be ok as it is non-conductive as long as it does not enter into any of the pin holes for the Arduino
  • Tape: Temporary Adhesive for attaching circuit to EVA Foam
    • This was chosen as I wanted a temporary adhesive that wouldn't have the potential to damage my electrical kit
On 3/6/25, I was able to make it to class this time. And with that time, I used it to further research videos I can use for my project. As compared to other people's projects, mines was not nearly as complex in terms of coding or concept, and I feared this project was going to fall in the category of "Mickey Mousing". I decided to further elaborate my topic by mixing a blend of conspiracy theories with the contrasting truths that oppose said theories. 

I included audio that discussed
  • Flat Earthers vs Science
  • Sandy Hook Hoax
  • Anti Vaxxers
I wanted the message to about how people regardless of what history, science or evidence may say, will find and stick to whatever is convenient or comfortable for them, and refuse to adamantly change or challenge themselves and actively attack others who say otherwise. This was especially the case after reading more about the "Sandy Hook hoax" and witnessing the amount of comments who outright chastice its victims and claim it to be nothing more than a ploy. While this project may have a simple construction and coding, I want it to be a voice and a criticism against type of behaviors.

This marks the end of the Ninth week. I look forward to the week after spring break.

Second Week in Interactive Art

The second week has officially closed. Here is a collection of all that happened this week in class: On 1/14/25, we went through all 25 sketches for every student. And out of all my sketches, I was able to filter down to these two sketch ideas: For number 24, the idea was loosely based off of brain surgery. It involves the viewer grabbing a needle and poking different parts of the mannequin's brain. And depending on where they poke in the brain, the eyes on the mannequin will show a projection of a video of some sort. For number 25, the piece involves placing a "paper-looking" dunce hat on a pedestal and everytime the audience wears it, it will play audio files of a voice saying terrible stuff about them. First Week in Electronic Media

My first week of Interactive Art II: Electronic Objects has ended. Here is a recap of all the things that happened during the week. On the first day, we covered the syllabus which had most of the things that would normally be outlined for every class including University Honor Policy, Attendance, etc. One of the only things that were new for this class would be how its course grading was divided which involved the following: 49 total possible points 1.4 for every Weekly Blog Posts (16 total) 4.7 for every Major Project Critiques (2 total) 9.7 for participation 2.7 for Presentation/Demonstration 4.8 for Contributions to Reading Discussions The other stand out thing also included some of the programs that we were going to be involved with: Arduino - coding program that we will be using to code devices for some of our artworks.
