Week 3 in Electronics Media

We have reached the end of Week 3.  This week, most of my notes from labs were taken from home due to the incoming snow from Florida. Regardless, here is a collection of all that happened this week for Electronics Media.

On 1/23/25, we were able to meet with Jean Michael Celerier (the lead developer of Ossia) through Zoom. He showed us a presentation of what Ossia was capable of and showed a demonstration of programs that he made with Ossia. There was a sound based project and a sort of 3d plane project he was able to make.

During 1/25/25, I was able to finish Lab 3 and 4 at home using the coding kit I was provided. Here are some of the notes I recorded along with videos of what each lab entailed:

What are Push Buttons?

  • A button that connects to bits of metal, allowing current to pass through the circuit
    • In the kit, the buttons have 4 contact pins
      • A and D are identical
      • B and C are identical
        • It doesn't matter which ones you use

What is the Wiper?
  • It is the middle leg of a potentiometer
    • Helps potentiometer work as a divider
    • Serves as VOut (output voltage of divider)
Additional Potentiometer notes:
  • One leg goes for 5V
  • Other leg goes to GND

Fifth Week in Electronics Media

The Fifth Week in Electronics Media has ended. This is what happened for this week of class: On 2/4/25, we experimented with the new software, TouchDesigner. It began with the preparation of a breadboard circuit, as well as a serial write and a serial print code in the Arduino. Once the circuit and coding was set up, we connected the breadboard to the lab computers and opened TouchDesigner. Unfortunately though, I was not able to get as far compared to everybody else as I was stuck on the text TOP function and it was not working regardless of how much I fixed it. Though I did record a bit of notes which involved: What is the difference between a Serial.write and a Serial.print Serial.write sends bytes to the serial port Serial.print sends ASCII characters  For 2/6/25, I wasn't able to participate in class as I was not feeling well that day and had to unfortunately stay home. Fourth Week in Interactive Art

We have now finished our 4th Week of Interactive Art. Here is a list of what happened. On 1/27/25, I was able to spend some time and completed Lab 5. Here is some of the notes and footage I recorded while I was performing Lab 5: Notes: What is an Ultrasonic Proximity Sensor (SR04 in kit)? Provides a way of detecting objects at a distance between 2-400 cm Arduino sends a pulse to the sensor's trigger, causing the sensor to send out a burst of ultrasonic sound When the sensor receives the echo, it raises its echo output to a HIGH level Distance it senses is encoded in the length of time that the Echo pin is HIGH What is the DHT11 Temperature and Humidity Sensor? Second Week in Interactive Art

The second week has officially closed. Here is a collection of all that happened this week in class: On 1/14/25, we went through all 25 sketches for every student. And out of all my sketches, I was able to filter down to these two sketch ideas: For number 24, the idea was loosely based off of brain surgery. It involves the viewer grabbing a needle and poking different parts of the mannequin's brain. And depending on where they poke in the brain, the eyes on the mannequin will show a projection of a video of some sort. For number 25, the piece involves placing a "paper-looking" dunce hat on a pedestal and everytime the audience wears it, it will play audio files of a voice saying terrible stuff about them. Once the discussion concerning our sketches ended, Robert assigned our first lab to do. It involved utilizing a bread board, leds, resistors, and connectors to make the led light up.
