Sixth Week in Interactive Art

The sixth week of Interactive Arts 2 has reached a close. Most of my class activities were dedicated to watching the videos provided on the annoucements page since we were not meeting in class for this week. Here is a collection of all my activities and notes for this week.

On 2/11/25, I was not able to perform any activities for this class due to certain circumstances.

For 2/13/24, I was able to dedicate the entire day to finishing all of the announcement videos that were provided on canvas. Here are some of the notes I have written:

"sourcing/buying components and info about shift registers" video

  • What are Limit Switches?
    • A switch that has a clicker lever, that when pressed, sends a signal
  • What is a Chassis Mount?
    • Sauderable metal pieces where wires and pieces are connected
  • What are Shift Registers?
    • Type of digital circuit using a cascade of flip-flops where the output of one flip-flop is connected to the next
      • Types:
        • Serial-in, parallel-out: Shifts data into internal storage elements and shift data out at any internal stages available for output
        • Parallel-in, Serial-out: Shifts data into any stages and then shifts out at internal storage
        • Surface mounts are harder to sauder due to their size
        • Used to connect switches
        • Has 15 pins
          • CLK: Clock
          • CLK INH: Clock inhibit; when high, no change in input
          • SH√LD: Shift/Load input, when high data shifted when low data is loaded from parallel inputs
          • QH: Serial output data pin, where steam of 1s and 0s come in
  • Tips:
    • Exclude market place products as shipping costs are worse
    • Data sheets show dimensions
    • Mounting holes for board makes it easier to mount on an object
    • USB are 5 volts
    • HV: High Volts, LV: Low Volts
"researching components" video
  • What is a RS232?
    • A serial port that connects to a computer or equipment that defines a connection between DCE (Data Circuit terminating Equipment; Ex: Modem) and DTE (Data Terminal Equipment; Ex: Computer)
      • Used -9 to 9 volts
      • Not for microcontrollers
  • What is a TTL?
    • A serial port commonly found in UART (Universally Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter) transmission method, a method found in most microcontrollers
  • What is a E2PROM?
    • A type of memory that saves parameter data
  • What is NEMA output format?
    • A type of format for serial communication found in GPS
  • What is 3v3
    • Regulated output from the onboard regulator
      • Can draw 700mA
  • Good brands:
    • Seeed Studios
    • ADA Fruit

This marks the end for Week 6. Looking forward to what's next for the upcoming week.
